Easy to learn, infinite depth. Five minutes to start, a lifetime to master.
Open Dice War and first select the number of players (2 to 8). You can assign some slots to AI or have all slots played by humans taking turns. After selecting the player count, the system generates a random hexagonal map and distributes territories among the colored factions. Each player's starting territories receive 1 to 8 dice at random — this is your initial military force.
Map size adjusts automatically based on player count — 2-player matches use smaller maps for tighter pacing, while 8-player brawls use large maps with ample room for expansion. If you're not satisfied with the initial layout, restart for a new map.
Tip: Starting dice counts are random — with luck, you might begin with a fully stacked (8 dice) territory. At the start, survey the entire map and identify where your faction is most concentrated — that's your core expansion direction.
On your turn, click one of your territories with 2+ dice — it highlights as selected. Then click an adjacent enemy territory to attack. The system automatically calculates attacker and defender dice counts and displays them. Confirm, and both sides roll all dice simultaneously.
Each die shows a random value from 1 to 6, and all dice on each side are summed. If the attacker's total exceeds the defender's, the attack succeeds — your dice advance to occupy the new territory, leaving 1 die behind. If the attack fails (including ties), your attacking territory retains only 1 die, and the defender is unaffected.
Win Probability Reference: The table below shows approximate win rates for attacker dice vs defender dice. More dice means better odds, but never underestimate the power of luck.
| Atk \ Def | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | ~99% | ~96% | ~90% | ~80% | ~68% | ~40% |
| 5 | ~96% | ~84% | ~66% | ~48% | ~33% | ~10% |
| 3 | ~92% | ~66% | ~42% | ~24% | ~13% | ~2% |
| 2 | ~84% | ~45% | ~21% | ~9% | ~4% | <1% |
You can only launch one attack per turn (regardless of outcome). After attacking, the turn ends and the reinforcement phase begins. The system calculates your largest connected territory and distributes that many reinforcement dice to your border territories. A "connected territory" is the largest group of adjacent territories you control.
Reinforcement dice are prioritized to border territories adjacent to enemy territory, with each territory holding up to 8 dice. If all border territories are full, remaining reinforcements go to interior territories. If even interior territories are full, excess reinforcements are wasted — that's why maintaining attack momentum and continuously spending dice matters.
Connectivity is King: A 5-tile connected area gives +5 dice per turn, while two 3-tile areas with a total of 6 tiles only give +3 dice (based on largest connected area). Better to abandon remote territories than lose your connection!
In multiplayer, factions take turns in a fixed order. When it's a faction's turn, they execute a complete "attack + reinforce" turn, then pass to the next. If a faction has been completely eliminated, they are skipped. The game continues until only one faction's color remains on the map — the conqueror is born.
In matches with AI, the AI executes its turn automatically when it comes around, usually in seconds. The AI selects the most advantageous attack targets and timing based on battlefield conditions. You can observe AI behavior during its turn to learn strategies for different situations. In hot-seat mode, players take turns on the same device.
When all territories on the map turn to your color, you've won Dice War. The victory screen showcases your conquest journey — from a small starting territory to total continental unification. If your faction is completely eliminated, you lose, but can continue spectating the remaining factions.
The charm of Dice War lies in the fact that even when things look one-sided, a crucial dice reversal can turn everything around. An 8 vs 3 attack isn't 100% guaranteed — that tiny chance of failure is exactly what keeps comeback hopes alive. Stay patient, seize every opportunity, and you never know when victory will arrive.
