Machi Koro

Machi Koro is a fast, family-friendly city-building dice game for 2–4 players. You are the mayor of a tiny town that starts with nothing but a wheat field and a bakery. On your turn you roll dice, collect coins from the buildings you own, and buy new establishments or landmarks. The first player to finish all four landmarks wins. On this site you can learn how to play Machi Koro and play Machi Koro free in your browser against AI — no download, no account.

What Is Machi Koro?

Designed by Masao Suganuma and published by Grounding Inc. in 2012 (US editions by IDW Games and Pandasaurus Games), Machi Koro won the 2015 Geekie Award for Best Tabletop Game and was a Spiel des Jahres nominee. A typical game lasts about 30 minutes and plays 2–4 players (ages 10+). The name literally means "Dice Town." The loop is simple: roll, earn, build — but the card synergies create real strategic depth.

How the Game Works (60-Second Version)

  1. Setup: each player gets a Wheat Field, a Bakery, and four face-down landmarks (Train Station, Shopping Mall, Amusement Park, Radio Tower), plus 3 coins.
  2. Roll: start with one die; once you build the Train Station you may roll one or two dice.
  3. Earn: any building whose number matches the roll pays out (from the bank, from you, or from opponents — see colors below).
  4. Build: spend coins to construct one establishment or complete one landmark.
  5. Win: first to complete all four landmarks.

The Four Card Colors

🟢 Green – Shops/Factories
