How to Play Machi Koro
Learning how to play Machi Koro takes about five minutes. This page covers setup, the turn structure, the four card colors, and the landmark abilities — everything you need before your first game (or before playing free vs AI on this site).
Setup
- Give each player a Wheat Field and a Bakery (your starting establishments).
- Place four landmarks face-down in front of each player: Train Station, Shopping Mall, Amusement Park, Radio Tower.
- Lay the supply establishments face-up, grouped by activation number.
- Each player takes 3 coins. Choose a starting player.
Turn Structure
A turn has three phases:
- Roll — one die (or two if you've built the Train Station). With two dice, add the results.
- Earn — every building you own whose number matches the roll activates:
- Blue: bank pays you on any turn.
- Green: bank pays you on your turn.
- Red: you take coins from the roller.
- Purple: you take from all opponents (or a special effect).
- Build — pay to construct one establishment or complete one landmark.
The Landmarks
| Landmark | Cost | Ability |
|---|---|---|
| Train Station | 4 | Roll one or two dice |
| Shopping Mall | 10 | +1 coin to Bakery, Café, Convenience Store, Restaurant |
| Amusement Park | 16 | Extra turn when you roll doubles |
| Radio Tower | 22 | Reroll your dice once per turn |
Winning
The first player to complete all four landmarks wins.
